Bitter battle for home, sweet home, Sydney Morning Herald, 23 March, 1987
Pictures by John Stapleton. Some of the only photographs of mine ever published by the paper. There was a very strict union enforced demarcation between photographers and journalists. Now a working journalist is expected to provide content across multiple platforms.

Mention in one of photographer William Yang's books regarding his portrait of David Malouf, 1987.
In the blurb for William Yang's 1987 portrait of David Malouf:
He asks me to lunch and we chat about this and that. Socially he's very relaxed. He seems so agreeable that I wonder whether there is a tough person behind the charm. When we are about to do the photos there is a knock on the door. It is John Stapleton, a journalist whom we both know. He was in the area and has called in for a chat and a cup of coffee. I think that we'll never get the photos done now. But David is quite firm. In the politest way he tells John that we are busy, that we have work to do and to come back another day. I am impressed.
