Lleyton Hewitt has only one tournament win this year, but he still came in fourth, netting $9million. Boxer Anthony Mundine only had to work one night to earn 10th place on the list. He was the only one of the top 10 based in Australia.
GOLFER Greg Norman, despite having barely lifted a club all year, has topped the list of Australia's highest-earning sports stars for the10th year in a row, with an estimated income of $20 million this year.
The list of the country's top50 sports stars, published by BRW, showed golf as the most lucrative sport, with three players in the top 10.
Joining Norman was Adam Scott, in third place, with an income of $10.3 million, and Geoff Ogilvy in seventh place ($7.8 million).
BRW noted that it was increasingly difficult to separate Norman's business income from his sports-related earnings.
While he only played a handful of tournaments and won a total of $100,000 in prizemoney, endorsement deals with the Foster's Group and equipment manufacturer MacGregor Golf kept him at the top.
Nine members of the Socceroos squad who played in the World Cup in Germany made the top 50, led by Harry Kewell, Mark Viduka and Tim Cahill.
