Abstract
Kings Plains Station is 38km west of Glen Innes and 42km east of Inverell. The station, which has rich basalt soil, was first settled in 1835 by William Vivers, an immigrant from Dumfries in Scotland. In 1908 his grand-nephew George Vivers began construction of thefour-level castle. The building, of stone from a local quarry, is heritage listed.

LET'S face it, there just aren't that many castles for sale in Australia.
Unless, that is, you head up the NSW's New England Highway towards Inverell. There, in the middle of Kings Plains Station, a 1236ha grazing property, you will find a 28-room castle set in landscaped gardens.
The castle has 12 bedrooms, four bathrooms, two dining rooms and two lounge rooms, a billiard room, a computer room and men's and ladies' dressing rooms. There are also 14 fireplaces, five verandas, four balconies, a linen room, sewing room, pantry and cool room.
Kings Plains has been in the Vivers family since 1835. Michael and Kathryn Vivers are selling because their three children are reaching high school and university age and the property can't really be split three ways. So for the first time in 167 years it's on the market, with an expected price around $3.5 million.

The property, watered by Kings Plains Creek, Stony Creek, 18 dams and natural springs, is currently run as a cattle breeding operation. It includes a manager's residence, a woolshed, garages, workshops, a hay shed, cattle and sheep yards and shearers' quarters and buildings.
Kings Plains Station will be auctioned in Sydney by agent David Nolan on December 3.
