BONDI last night possessed all the ingredients for another Bali tragedy.
Just like in the Sari Club on the night of October 12, young people from all over the world come to the Bondi Hotel and the bars and backpacker joints that fill the streets behind Australia's most famous beach.
Just as Bali was the play place for Australia's young and young- at-heart, so Bondi is for the British.
While their fellow countrymen freeze in the European winter, they flock in their tens of thousands for what has become an essential rite of passage.
None of these legions of the young were letting the fear of a terrorist attack stop them from having a whopping good time.
Helen Little, 31, from Twickenham in London, said: "Terrorists or not, we are still going out no matter what, we are going to have a good time."
"That is what we are here for," she said. "It is also my birthday so I am going out full-time, out for the max."

"We are going to get slaughtered, as in pissed.
"Even though there is talk about terrorists, everybody is still going out. If it happens, it happens."
Natalie Cooper, 29, a designer from Essex, said some of her friends were refusing to go anywhere near the city. "We are going to have a quiet night out in a park, a few beers, friends, and then we'll come back to Bondi to look at the carnage, everybody jumping in the sea at 1.00am."
