NSW recorded its first road fatalities for 2003 with two people killed, one on the state's mid-north coast and another on the far south coast, bringing the state's holiday road toll to 11.
THE Christmas road toll reached 55 yesterday following an early morning fatality in South Australia.
Just 25 minutes into the new year the state recorded the first road death for 2003, bringing its toll for the holiday season to 10.
A 43-year-old man from Broken Hill died after being hit by a car at Gilles Plains in Adelaide's northeast.
Victoria's toll for the holiday period, already the highest in the nation, hit 21 yesterday after an 87-year-old man died in hospital after a two-car collision.
